Christina Kelley-Astorga
Christina joined Tyson Foods as a Production Supervisor after completing her education at Arkansas State University. She had the opportunity to work in the bakery division, slaughtering and deboning operations before becoming the Quality Assurance Manager and HACCP Coordinator at one of the most diverse meat and poultry further processing facilities in Tyson’s family.
Her involvement with the SQF Program began in her years with Kellogg’s Snack Foods. As Quality/Food Safety Manger, she developed and implemented the SQF 2000 Systems Program at one of the first manufacturing facilities in the US to become SQF Certified in 2005.
Upon leaving the Kellogg’s organization she became the Technical Director of the SQF Institute, a Division of the Food Marketing Institute in Washington, D.C. Her responsibilities included Chairman of the Panel Review Committee which reviews and approves SQF Auditor and SQF Consultant applications, member of the Technical Advisory Council which provides direction on the SQF Code requirements and development of many of the training materials, presentations and work books that are still in use globally today.
Today, Christina and her partner own and operate Food Safety & Quality Systems, LLC a licensed and accredited training center. Her unique experience both with implementing SQF at the facility level and her continued involvement with the SQF Institute provides her with a unique approach to support facilities in accomplishing their goals of SQF Certification.
Marty Astorga
Marty Astorga is an owner of Food Safety & Quality Systems, LLC and has been in the food industry for over 30 years in various management positions from first line supervisor to Plant Manager. Marty has worked with top industry providers such as Tyson Foods, Nutra Sweet, Pinnacle Foods, Tootsie Roll, and Select Beverages. Throughout his career Marty has further developed his skills through attendance in various seminars such as the Zenger Miller Management Training, 5S Organizational Structures, OSHA Compliance, MRP II Lean Manufacturing Principles, and MRP training for SAP implementation. As a Plant Manager Marty was responsible for the entire operation including departmental budgets, capital expenditures, and Profit Improvement Process.
Marty’s management style has been innovative and results orientated. He has shown to be a change agent capable of building focused teams, implementing rapid transitions and positively impacting the bottom line as well as the company culture with a solid record of success in start up, growth, expansion and turn around opportunities. Marty has always utilized all his assets to accomplish work goals including developing hourly employees and including them at top level discussions on accomplishing Key Process Indicators.
As an SQF Consultant Marty brings a unique outlook to implementing the SQF Program in food and packaging manufacturing facilities. He works closely with the plant’s Operations, Maintenance and Sanitation departments to develop Preventative Maintenance Programs, Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures and Operational SOPs while ensuring the policies meet the GFSI requirements and are functional and easily sustained after the audit is over.
